The State of AI in 2025, in 6 Charts

Posted on October 7, 2025 By Michael Zheng

AI Is Accelerating In Terms of Capital, Performance, and Impact

It was in late 2022 when the most recent AI boom ignited with the launch of ChatGPT, and in 2025, nearly three years later, AI is still scaling as quickly as ever. AI adoption and investment are accelerating across virtually every industry, such as healthcare, retail, tech, and entertainment. And beneath the hype lies substance, as AI is making a crucial impact for people and businesses worldwide, whether it be increasing productivity, answering questions, or spurring innovation. In this article, we dive into 6 charts that highlight the state of AI in 2025.

1) AI Models Are Surpassing PhD-level Benchmarks in Science

The plot above depicts AI models’ performance in GPQA Diamond, an Epoch AI benchmark that tests PhD-level scientific reasoning on the most difficult, expert-level questions [1]. In 2025, many models have eclipsed the expert human-level benchmark of 70%. Given that most models were under 50% a year ago, the sheer speed at which AI models have reached and now surpassed expert-like capabilities is no less than astonishing, especially considering that these capabilities take humans decades of learning to achieve.

2) Funding for AI Companies is Accelerating Faster Than Ever

In the chart above, the top 50 AI companies are taken from Forbes’ AI 50 list every year going back to 2022 [2-5]. The growth in average funding has increased by almost 10 times since 2022 among the top 50 AI companies, and from 2024 to 2025 alone it increased almost 4-fold. This is significant because more funding means accelerated AI adoption, infrastructure growth, and greater research and innovation.

3) US Companies – Led by the Bay Area – Still Dominate the AI Landscape

From the pie chart above, 86% of Forbes’ Top 50 AI Companies in 2025 are based in the United States, while 14% are international. 33 of the top 50 companies are from the Bay Area, making it the leading AI hub in the world. However, other regions in America, such as New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, are projected to close the gap in the coming years and make rapid progress in the AI scene.

4) Training Compute for AI Models is Increasing Over 4x per Year

The line graph above shows the average training compute for models by year since 2010, the start of the Deep Learning Era [6]. Over the past 15 years, the average training compute in terms of FLOP (Floating Point Operations) has increased by nearly 10 orders of magnitude, at an exponential rate of 4.23x/year. This growth is significant because greater infrastructure means more holistic and accurate models, allowing more complex problems to be solved across every industry.

5) The Global AI Market is Skyrocketing

In 2025, the global AI market value ballooned from $257.7 billion in 2024 to $371.7 billion in 2025, almost a 50% increase. And from now until 2032, the AI market is projected to grow with a CAGR of 30.6% according to MarketsandMarkets [7], yielding a projected market value of over $2.4 trillion in 2032. Artificial intelligence is the consensus fastest-growing industry in 2025, as advancements in computing power, adoption of AI agents, and growth in deep learning technologies continue to propel the AI market to new heights.

6) AI Agents Are Already Making a Huge Impact Within Companies

The data from the chart above is from a UiPath survey of 252 IT executives conducted in 2025 [8]. Of the businesses that have implemented AI agents, more than 65% reported benefits in efficiency, precision, and decision-making. Other important benefits include reduced costs, elevated customer experience, and greater innovation.

Additionally, AI agents are particularly beneficial in the world of sales, as AI sales agents such as Vengo AI have proven to significantly increase lead capture and bring in more customers for businesses. According to PwC [9], 79% of businesses surveyed are already adopting AI agents in 2025, making next-gen agents like Vengo AI essential for staying competitive.

Final Thoughts

Over recent years, AI has transcended the limits of technology and transformed virtually every aspect of society, from business to healthcare to education. The six charts above give valuable insight and perspective on the current state of AI in 2025, highlighting important trends, examples of growth, and future projections. Ultimately, AI’s widespread adoption, burgeoning investment, and impact across businesses are why the AI boom is still going strong and will continue to echo into the future.
